Dragon Age: The Veilguard Features 140,000 Lines of Recorded Dialogue

Set to debut this fall, Dragon Age: The Veilguard marks a significant milestone, arriving a full ten years after the previous installment, Dragon Age: Inquisition. The lengthy wait has understandably stirred frustration among the fanbase, but the development team emphasizes that the expansive nature of the game required a longer build-up.

In a conversation with GamesRadar, creative director John Epler they expressed the team's dedication to excellence, stating that they aimed to create “the best version” of the action RPG. The voice-acting cast has invested five years in the project, reflecting its commitment to quality. Creative performance director Ashley Barlow highlighted the incredible volume of content, noting that the game includes an astounding 140,000 lines of recorded dialogue. Among these, the central character, Rook, accounts for 60,000 lines alone, with each variant of Rook—voiced by different actors—adding approximately 15,000 lines each.

Barlow commented on the sheer magnitude of recording such extensive dialogue: “Recording 700 characters and all those lines takes considerable time. Achieving quality requires patience.”

It’s important to acknowledge that the game's initial development faced various challenges and necessary revisions. BioWare ultimately focused on a singular vision for a single-player experience, which helped steer the project to fruition.

With its impressive scope, Dragon Age: The Veilguard not only surpasses its predecessors in dialogue but also continues BioWare's storytelling legacy, exceeding the 80,000 lines found in Dragon Age: Inquisition and the 65,000 in Mass Effect: Andromeda.

All details regarding the voice cast have recently been unveiled, building excitement ahead of the game’s arrival on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC this fall. Moreover, it will undergo validation by Steam Deck, with a precise launch date set to be announced later this summer.
